Retro Thursday*

This is another one from 2001. Done with the mouse. I didn't get my first tablet until a few years later (which I still use). That was a good day. Anyway, this is Lion-O from Thundercats pining over Cheetara. Poor kid missed puberty having aged prematurely in his suspension capsule during their flight to Third Earth (geeky info aided by Google.)

*In an effort to post something once a week I'll be showing an image from the archives each Thursday.

Retro Thursday*

This was in answer to an online competition over at ConceptArt.org. The idea was to take a video game character and revamp it. I can't remember the character's name (Area, maybe?) or game. I had been looking at a lot of Jon Foster's oil work at the time I did this.

Arcade game propaganda: Part VI

Sixth in a series of mock propaganda posters based on 1980s arcade games. This game was/is my favourite way to waste quarters. I liked the option to have two fighters - especially on challenge levels.

Retro Thursday*

Here is another old one. Done somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2001. This is what can happen with no planning, sketch or hard reference. A not-so-attractive Leeloo.

A new arcade propaganda poster (well, two)

Here is the latest in the series. I couldn't decide which layout I liked better so I posted both.

Star Wars posters inspired from vintage beverage ads

Here are a couple of quick mock-ups based on old beverage posters. The first one of Darth Vader is based on this poster. I knew as soon as I saw it (years ago) I wanted to stick Vader in there.
And the Jedi Knights is based on this poster.

Retro Thursday

This one is pretty old, circa 2001, and mainly done just for fun. Practicing digital art, etc. I think I cropped off the head because I really didn't like the way it turned out. I found the original psd file for this and it looks like I did it at this pixel size. I guess I never really intended it for print.

*Retro Thursdays are an attempt by me to post something at least once a week. So, I drag something from the archives that may or may not have seen the light of day before.

Arcade game propaganda: Part III and IV

Here are two more mock propaganda posters featuring 1980s arcade games.

I've made posters of them all. Click here to check them out.

Arcade game propaganda: Part II

Here is another poster in the series. I didn't play this one very much, but I think it lends itself to some propaganda.

Arcade game propaganda

On the heels of yesterday's post: I've started a series of posters in a vintage propaganda style. The subject matter is of old arcade games. Can you guess which game this is for?

Retro Thursday

Whew. Another week went by without a post. Good thing I've instituted "Retro Thursdays"*. Here is something that I did in response to a challenge over at Conceptart.org (or at lease I think it was, this is a pretty old one). Anyway, the challenge was to re-imagine an old video game. I chose "Forbidden Forest" circa 1984, which I used to play on my Commodore 64 - loaded from a 5.25 floppy. Fun stuff.

*In and effort to post something at least once a week I'm going to drag images from the archives to show. Some will be very old and some not so old.
