Star Wars series begins anew: R2D2 and C3PO

I'm working with Acme Archives Limited again on some more Star Wars prints. This time, instead of vintage travel images, I'm going with a spin on vintage toy box art. Ads you might see for certain droids from the Star Wars universe. I'm starting off with the inseparable pair of Artoo and Threepio.

Artoo will be available this Thursday on Ltd Art Gallery's website and then on Acme Archives Direct.

Threepio will be available a short time after - not exactly sure on the timing yet.

I went simple with the descriptions on the droids' "options" to keep it true to the vintage robot toy art. "Periscope" sounded better than "Extendable Auxillary Visual Imaging System".

More to come.

Licensed My Little Pony Christmas prints

Starting at 9:30 a.m. PST, Friday Dec. 7, two officially licensed "My Little Pony" prints go on sale. Dark Hall Mansion asked me to come up with a couple of Christmas concepts. These are the result.
The Variant and Canvas editions will all be signed, and for the Variants, it's Dark Hall Mansion's first time having these select editions printed on a paper stock favored by photographers for special printing projects.

These are Giclee prints, 18 by 24 in. Standard edition of 300 are $65 each and variant edition of 50 (signed by me) are $100 each. They will also have canvas prints (15) for $250.

Dark Hall Mansion's prints have been known to sell out and with the popularity of The Hub's "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" show, this could be the case.

For those not familiar with the sale process, simply load the Dark Hall Mansion Store page here. and REFRESH page at 9:30, you'll see Paypal Add-to-Cart buttons appear beneath all 6 Editions allowing you to check out securely.

If you'd also like to try your luck for an extra copy, I'm holding a giveaway contest. All you need to do is follow this link and provide your name and email - to be used only to notify the winner.

The print I'll be giving away is a signed artist print. Same size and quality as the regular run.
Good Luck!

Limited edition My Little Pony prints and Dec. Give-away

I've teamed up with Dark Hall Mansion who has teamed up with Hasbro on these limited edition My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic prints, just in time for Christmas.

These prints are officially licensed through Hasbro and The Hub.

They will go on sale this Friday morning, Dec. 7 at 9:30 PST in the Dark Hall Mansion store. Available on fine art paper as well as canvas Giclee prints.

To go along with the sale, I'll start a give-away on Friday. If you win you will have a choice of one of the two prints (on paper). This will be an artist's proof print and will more than likely arrive in the new year.

Wreck it Ralph and Rampage

This is something I did to pay homage to the video game that preceded Ralph when it came to knocking down buildings - Rampage. The original wrecking crew consisting of a Gorilla (George), a Wereolf (named Ralph, oddly enough) and a Lizard (Lizzie).

I'm not sure who is more excited about the movie, me or my kids. Looks like they tap into a lot of the retro arcade games from my youth for this movie. Should be fun.

Dark Hall Mansion to release some prints from artist Tom Whalen

Ltd Art Gallery show: A tribute to B-movies

Ltd Art Gallery in Seattle is having another cool show (yes, another one). This time paying homage to the great B-movies of our time.

I chose "Escape from New York" and used the vintage-style postcard treatment. Seemed to fit. I'll have a 24 by 18 inch print there embellished with acrylic paint. I'm still on the fence whether or not to print up some actual postcards.

The show opens Friday, Oct. 5. You can find out more info on their facebook page.

Mos Eisley racing print on ebay

I have to start off by apologizing to all the people who took the time to email me for a copy of this print. Just to have me turn them away. It's true it has sold out. The single print I have left was reserved for someone, but they have since backed out. Freeing up this copy.

I haven't kept a record of who asked about this print or when so I can't go back and grant the 'first-come first-served' rule.

So, I've decided to put it up on ebay. It's lucky #7 out of 15 and comes hand numbered and signed.

Giclee on paper
13 by 19 inches

It also comes with a certificate of authenticity from Lucasfilm and Acme Archives Limited.

You can find it here. Bidding ends Sep 07, 2012 at 16:21:03 PDT.

Cover illo for Johnny Graphic and the Etheric Bomb

I had the pleasure of working on a cover for a novel (first in a trilogy) by writer D.R. Martin. I could explain it, but I thought it would be better to use his words:

"All that Johnny Graphic ever wanted was to be a star news photographer. But the story that puts the twelve-year-old and his big sister on the front page could well come with a horrible headline: BOY LENSMAN MURDERED BY GHOSTS!

The year is 1935 and in Johnny’s world spooks are very, very real. Most wraiths are friendly to the living. Some of them even have jobs. But a few ancient ghost assassins are on the warpath, out to kill Johnny’s sister Melanie—for reasons the kids don’t even begin to understand.

The two siblings have to unravel a deadly ghost conspiracy that reaches around the globe and threatens the lives of millions. Or die trying!"

You can purchase the book as an ebook and other formats here.

And for those in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, the paperback will be available at the Red Balloon bookstore on Grand Av., and Magers & Quinn in Uptown.

Gallery1988 Crazy 4 Cult show in New York!

The annual "Crazy 4 Cult" show at Gallery1988 is what drew me to the gallery. Ever since I saw the entries for the show a few years ago, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. And I finally am, which I'm thrilled about.

This year they are taking to the show to New York City. It opens August 9 and runs to Sept. 1. I chose the movie "The Fifth Element" as my inspiration. I initially wanted to do a movie poster treatment, but could not get this image out of my head. In the end, I'm happy I went this way. I think it's just different enough to stand out (there are over 200 artists in this year's show). We'll see.

Limited edition of 50

Prints available online after the show starts, or just contact me through my website.
